Archiving Golden Time
ゴールデンタイム.
Gôruden Taimu. It's the Japanese equivalent of Prime Time TV scheduling. Of course, a short film about an old television set that is past its prime having that expression for its title, it's pretty ironic.
Golden Time (not to be confused with Golden Time) is, unfortunately, rather hard to get a hold of nowadays. It was available on Netflix for a short period of time, but has since been taken off of it- one of the many victims of the fleeting nature of streaming services (and one of the many reasons why piracy is good, actually).
It's quite the shame, because I found it to be profoundly beautiful. I's a story about missing your former self, and how trying to get back to a past version of yourself can hurt both you and those around you. Most importantly, it's about finding new purpose.
I uploaded the full short as a YouTube video (seen below). I unfortunately couldn't find a version of it above 720p, so it'll have to make due. Please watch it while it's up, I don't know if it will encounter a whole lot of copyright issues. If you can, download it as well. I truly think this short was meant to be preserved.
